King’s Health Partners has launched Type 2 Take 2, an innovative pilot programme for young adults aged 18-25 with type 2 diabetes, to encourage them to be more physically active.Launched by King’s Health Partners, an NHS-university partnership based in south east London, the six-month, in-person pilot is funded by Partnership Southwark, and will include the use of the Sweatcoin app as a motivating factor to get moving.Young adults will be tasked to use Sweatcoin to take part in challenges and to monitor their progress, in between sessions to help enhance their learning and engagement. The health app motivates people to get moving through rewards in the form of sweatcoins, which can then be exchanged for a variety of vouchers, including health-related products and experiences.

Sweatcoin is a former Digital Health Rewired Pitchfest finalist – having reached the final in 2022.According to Sweatcoin, its app was the most downloaded health app globally in 2022-2023 and motivated people to move an average of 43 percent more. The company has previously worked alongside South West London Integrated Care System to tackle type 2 diabetes, by creating a prevention programme targeting at-risk individuals.Elliot Omari, health and wellbeing practitioner for Type 2 Take 2, said: “Collectively, King’s Health Partners is the largest provider of diabetes and endocrinology services in Europe, so by combining with Sweatcoin’s unique approach to incentivising physical activity through rewards, we hope to empower young adults to effectively manage their diabetes, improve their health outcomes, and go on to live healthier lives.”Anton Derlyatka, CEO and co-founder of Sweatcoin, added: “We are honoured to be a part of this initiative, championing a new era of preventative healthcare.
